Disturbia

Atlas L. Fox is the pen name used by one of LR's most creative and prolific students.

Atlas L. Fox

Engulfed in darkness, rays of light dappled through the shadows around her. She stared up at the sky. The sky stared down in response.

The ground had turned dry generations ago. The land parched, those with enough money left through the portals. Small pockets of paradise, she had heard, were on the other side. She wasn’t sure if she believed that, but all the others she knew hoped so. They begged that maybe one day the gaps in the universe would let them through.

The poor had been left behind on a desolate wasteland. She was raised to nothing.

Bland nothing. All of the plains she knew, were empty, filled with nothingness.

The grey was always dry.

But today, it rained.

The sun had gone black, and the grey clouds had shimmered silver, pouring down on the desperate nothing beneath.

Rivers ran beneath her feet, but she was only captivated by the sky above.

Cold steadily sank into her bones, making her clothes and hair heavy.

She shivered.

Such awareness was straining to come by, but the cold granted it to her.

Thoughts floated around, new to her, old to some.

Like fabric in a vast ocean, they were there one second, and swallowed in blueness the next.

The clouds broke.

Blue cascaded over her, enrapturing her.

Before her, before she could come to terms, a new portal opened.

It glowed with the same immense blue, beckoning her to step through.

She forgot the black sun, forgot the cold of the rain, the nothing of the world.

She forgot them all, and stepped forth into the intense blue.

And suddenly, the nothingness was repleted.

She was immersed into the blue as it was absorbed into her.
